Purpose:
to identify the effectiveness of balloon dacryoplasty in persistant congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) following previous stenting of nasolacrimal duct
Methods:
14 eyes of 9 patients with CNLDO who failed to respond to probing and stenting of nasolacrimal duct were included and underwent balloon dacryoplasty as a tertiary procedure. Success was evaluated after 6 months by using dye disappearance test and also resolution of patients symptoms.
Results:
balloon dacryoplasty was successful in 13 of 14 eyes (92.8%) in our study.
Conclusion:
balloon dacryoplasty is an effective surgical procedure that should be considered in cases of CNLDO who did not respond to probing and stenting of lacrimal system.
